Welcome to any visitors from Excavated Shellac! Have a look around, I’m sure you’ll find something you haven’t heard before!
I’ve already posted something from Oriental Records and quite a few Cantonese records, but I just couldn’t resist sharing this recent find. Otherworldly!

HAJI MAJI 
The piece is:
Zimu bei zhi fuqi xianghui. (fourth part)
(The reunion of husband and wife (at) the mother & child tablet (inscription)
A Furongqiang in man zhong ban (Furongsinging in slow middle rythm)
Sao Yunlan acting the huadan (elderly lady)
and
Li Haiquan acting the chou (clown)

Comment by john April 23, 2009 @ 9:30 pmhuadan is a young woman not elderly and its furongqiang(zhongban) THEN man-zhongban. furongzhongban means that there is usually 16 beats of singing then 4 of music then one of silence(played by the large wood block). this kind of zhong ban is usually kind of fast. regular zhongban is just singing w/ no long jeui (musical interludes)
