Welcome to any visitors from Excavated Shellac! Have a look around, I’m sure you’ll find something you haven’t heard before!

I’ve already posted something from Oriental Records and quite a few Cantonese records, but I just couldn’t resist sharing this recent find. Otherworldly!

(see COMMENTS for title/performer translations).

The piece is:

Zimu bei zhi fuqi xianghui. (fourth part)
(The reunion of husband and wife (at) the mother & child tablet (inscription)

A Furongqiang in man zhong ban (Furongsinging in slow middle rythm)

Sao Yunlan acting the huadan (elderly lady)
and
Li Haiquan acting the chou (clown)

Hope that helps a little:

Thanks for a lovely site with lots of good music!

Any chanse that we could hear the other side as well maybe all four if you have them

best greetings from
Lars (aka Mr Fung)

Lee Hoi Chuan (the male singer) on this piece is the father of Bruce Lee (the martial artist, founder of Jeet Kune Do, and star of “Enter the Dragon” plus other movies)

hi,
huadan is a young woman not elderly and its furongqiang(zhongban) THEN man-zhongban. furongzhongban means that there is usually 16 beats of singing then 4 of music then one of silence(played by the large wood block). this kind of zhong ban is usually kind of fast. regular zhongban is just singing w/ no long jeui (musical interludes)
